About spiked

spiked has been producing punchy, provocative and fearless journalism for 25 years – offering an oasis of sanity in a world gone mad.

We are fiercely independent, guided solely by our principles and funded with the support of loyal readers.

The spiked story so far:

Founded in 2001 and now edited by Tom Slater, spiked reaches millions with our hard-hitting articles, incisive essays and our growing roster of podcasts and videos.

All our work is driven by our core principles. We are the only publication to consistently champion free speech, democracy and human endeavour – without ifs, buts or qualifications.

It’s the gold standard. It’s provocative, it’s contentious, it’s always well written. I read stuff in spiked and think, “God, I wish I’d written that”

Toby Young, founder Free Speech Union

Our aim

spiked is prepared to say what others won’t and never follows political fashions. Our aim is to enliven, enlighten and entertain, not to hector, lecture or pontificate.

Support spiked

We would not exist without the support of our readers. Our donation-funded model means we have no corporate ties or interests to appease.
