About spiked

spiked is the magazine that wants to change the world as well as report on it. We are irreverent where others conform, questioning where others wallow in received wisdom, and radical where others cling to the status quo.

For 25 years, we have been at the vanguard of online political journalism, making the case for freedom of speech, democracy and human endeavour, and against authoritarianism, identity politics and misanthropic greenism.

The story so far

Founded in 2000, spiked now reaches millions of people with our punchy polemics, incisive essays and growing roster of podcasts and videos.

To find out more about our history, check out the video above, featuring all three of spiked’s editors – Mick Hume, Brendan O’Neill and Tom Slater.

I read things in spiked and think, ‘God, I wish I’d written that’. It’s the gold standard
