The creepiness of Covid-secure sex

Casual sex was one of the first casualties of lockdown. When the stay-at-home order was issued, Brits were barred from visiting others. Even established couples were told to move in together or accept the consequences of staying apart.

Thankfully, the so-called bonking ban will be lifted next week, as the government permits hugging, kissing and overnight stays with others as part of its next step out of lockdown.

But this has worried some health experts who, during the pandemic, have developed a handy set of suggestions for Covid-secure sex. According to guidance from the Terrence Higgins Trust, those who have casual sex should still mask up for the occasion and avoid doing it face to face.

The megalomania of these people is downright creepy. And it isn’t just British health experts who have taken to telling people how to have sex during the pandemic. Guidance published last spring by the New York City health department advised those having sex with people outside their household to get ‘creative with sexual positions and physical barriers, like walls, that allow sexual contact while preventing close face to face contact’. If that wasn’t an option, the guidance reminded New Yorkers that, in the end, ‘You are your safest sex partner’.

Now that the pandemic is mercifully receding, these wankers should get out of our bedrooms for good.
