Trains are decorated as ‘Trainbows’ – painted in the colours of the Pride flag.

This week, a train driver greeted passengers over the tannoy with the phrase: ‘Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls.’ A trainguard overheard the announcement and complained to the train operator – London North Eastern Railway (LNER) – because it excluded non-binary individuals. ‘It doesn’t actually apply to me so I won’t listen’, the guard tweeted. A non-binary friend, who was also on the train, protested that the announcement made them both ‘alarmed and uncomfortable [at] the lack of inclusion’.

Incredibly, LNER actually upheld the complaint. ‘Our train managers should not be using language like this’, a social-media manager said, pledging to make the train service ‘inclusive’.

So there you have it. A train company has decreed that ‘ladies and gentlemen’ is offensive. Wokeness is sending everyone off the rails.
